Juvéderm®, Restylane® & Selphyl®

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm is an injectable gel that gently reverses many signs of aging in the face, including fine lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet, thinning lips and loosening skin. It can also “plump up” the lips, sculpt the cheeks, and restore a youthful oval shape to the face. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is non-animal-based and highly biocompatible, no pre-treatment testing is needed. Juvéderm comes in three formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated. Results can last approximately six to nine months, but individual results can vary.

Restylane®

Restylane is an injectable filler, used for smoothing out facial wrinkles. It is a biodegradable gel composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance occurring within the body. In addition to adding fullness to the skin, Restylane attracts water molecules to the site of the injection, further enhancing its effectiveness.  Restylane provides results that are noticeable immediately after injection, although it may take a few days for swelling to subside. Day-to-day activities can be resumed immediately afterwards, with no downtime necessary.

There are minimal complications associated with Restylane. The compound itself is derived from bacterial origins, so most allergies should not be an issue (unless specific to bacterial proteins). Side effects may include slight redness, minor swelling, and mild discomfort, which usually subside within three days, as the body adjusts to the new hyaluronic acid. Patients should refrain from rubbing or massaging the treated area for approximately 48 hours.

Selphyl®

The Selphyl system utilizes a patient’s own natural platelet-rich plasma and fibrin to fill in wrinkles, folds, acne and other depressions within the skin, eliminating the need for injecting synthetic or animal-derived materials into the skin. Once injected into the skin, the platelet rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) stimulates cell migration and skin volume for a younger but natural-looking appearance.

This procedure takes about 20 minutes to perform in our office and prepares approximately 4 cc of product to contour the face and enhance the appearance of the skin. Results typically appear three weeks after treatment and are visibly effective and long-lasting. The Selphyl treatment is considered safe and effective for nearly all patients with a minimal risk of side effects.
